Summary: Not as good as Baby 411
Comment: I loved Baby 411 and Baby Bargains by the same authors, but was disappointed by this book. It is too medically-based and doesn't have enough information on developement and management. While it's certainly helpful to have that medical stuff (esp. in the middle of the night when you're trying to decide whether to call the pediatrician or not), this is not sufficient for raising a toddler. The other big flaw in this book is that I think it tries to cover too many ages in the same area. It covers ages 1-4, and doesn't differentiate between what's appropriate for a one-year old and a 4 year old.

Summary: Great advice
Comment: This book is a great resource for any parent. Our son is almost 15 months old and I have found myself thumbing through this on a regular basis. Both this and the Baby 411 have helped to reduce my new parent anxiety when the unexpected happens. I especially like the fact that they address some controversial issues without guilting or bullying the parent into doing it their way. They stress that each child is different and that it's up to us to make the best decisions for OUR child.

Summary: Not worth it
Comment: This book is not worth buying. I know the other reviews praise it but there are better books out there. Books that actually have sense in them. I strongly suggest the no-cry discipline solution Gentle Ways to Encourage Good Behavior Without Whining,Tantrums, & Tears by Elizabeth Pantley. Elizabeth's book has sense and has true experiences in it. Not outdated hoowie that most of the other books have in them. I NEVER suggest walking away from a child just to satisfy yourself. It's not only selfish. It's wrong and harmful to a child emotionally,etc.. It shows the child you don't care about them at all. And your actions should show far from that. You need to show you do care. And walking away is not showing that at all. Children pick up on that and so should we. Be careful just because the book has the words behind a persons name Ph.D or MD. It doesn't mean they know everything. We are brainwashed into believing these people whom get these degrees are of higher intelligence than us. And that's isn't true. We all have smarts and we all have experiences but that doesn't mean that those that do go to school to get these degrees have chosen to embrace the experiences they have had or others they know that have had them themselves. It just means that person is only willing to display their pride and that doesn't mean anything to those whom need the help. So be careful and mindful when looking for parenting books. What we do with these precious gifts of God that the Lord has given to us we will be judged for.

Summary: This book is great!
Comment: This book is great for any parent of a toddler from the moment they turn 1! However, it more medical in nature than psychological. I was actually looking for something to help with the terrible 2's, and this book is very light in that area. But there a plethera of information in this book, which includes potty training tips, getting rid of the pacifier, nighttime waking problems/concerns/tips, transitioning from a crib to a bed, as well an exorbinant amount of information on childhood illnesses/remedies/prevention from the common cold and broken bones to Staph infection and life threatening viruses/bacterias. This is definately a must have for any parent, and a great companion to What to Expect the Toddler Years!

Comment: I just love this book!!! It gives you useful information and suggestions in such a delightful way. I often can't help laughing when I'm reading it. I'm a teacher with seven years of experience, but a first time mom. This book is absolutely my life-saver.
