These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Deuteronomy 6:6-7a

Your children are a blessing from God. A gift that brings an abundance of joy and the privilege of teaching them God's ways. When they're young their potential to learn is amazing. And because actions and beliefs go hand in hand, the lessons they learn from you now will shape their lives forever.

This wonderful book, with its easy-to-use story format, can help you teach the basic truths of the Christian faith to your children. They'll learn right along with Caleb and Cassie that God's ways are the best--and that even as kids, they can live for His glory every day.

Summary: Excellent way to teach big truths to young ones!
Comment: I was a little frusterated by some of the children's literature out there that seeks to teach them Biblical truths. This book is excellent. It is a book that is full of stories that emphasize different spiritual truths in an engaging way. Before each story are a few questions (catechism) that you ask your child, the answer is provided and over time, your child will become familiar with the answers. Example: Who made you? God. What else did God make? God made all things. As you go along, you get to deeper truths. I overhead my wife asking my soon to be 4 year old son, "Why did God make you and all things?" and my son answered, "For His own glory." How great is that?! We've only been using the book a little over a week. This is a great asset for those who want their children to know solid truth about God that goes beyond surface level.

I also found that the stories do an excellent job of reinforcing the truths found in the catechism. Usually you see a few distortions of the truth in many kids books, but so far, I haven't found anything I've disagreed with yet in this one. I find myself nodding my head in affirmation of the great truths they are conveying in this children's book. Way to go!

Summary: Lots of good stuff!
Comment: This book offers a nice variety and could probably be used for kids of a spectrum of ages--as young as two. My sister's 2-year-old has learned several catechism questions from it, but the stories are better for a somewhat older child.

Summary: not useful for us...
Comment: I did not like this book because of its huge emphasis on catechism. We believe that it's more important for children to "hide God's word in their heart" than it is to put questions & answers into a brainwashed program for kids. God's word is a "double edged sword" and if we can get it into our kids, God will do the job. Obviously, it's important to explain what the bible verses mean so that they can understand God's word that they are memorizing. Catechism is superfluous and this book overemphasizes it.

Summary: Our 6 year old asks for more!
Comment: This has become a valuable addition to our devotional resources. I think every Christian parent should have this on their nightstand/coffee table for frequent reading. Our son asks for one more story whenever I say we're done for the night. That's half the test. The other is its accuracy to the Scriptures. This provides a clear format to convey our family's faith to our son. I didn't learn by question and answer catechism and was unfamiliar with it, but we love that format. I highly recommend this book for your children.

Summary: Could be dangerous....
Comment: I'm a little wary of this book. In the first 5 stories or so it seems that the emphasis was on the sin of non believers and new believers. Every time some one sinned it was this new Christian boy Daniel. Then the other children that were believers would point out the sin in the boy or go and get there father to help explain the areas of sin in the little boy Daniel. This type of thinking will lead you away from the cross and right into judgmental legalism. I think the book would have served its purpose to a greater degree if it would have pointed the hearts of Caleb and Cassie to the cross, to examine there own hearts and to be brought to repentance through Christ's work on the cross. The last thing I want is my children to be looking for sins in others without looking to there own hearts first. That being said it still had some great things as well. Teaching our children to pray through scripture and going through the catechisms is a wonderful thing.
