What do Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the abolition of slavery, and the civil rights movement have in common? They all began because of one universal human emotion: anger.
When motivated by injustice and guided by love, anger is a catalyst for good. But how can we make our anger a good thing? Dr. Gary Chapman, best-selling author of The Five Love Languages, brings us The Other Side of Love to teach us the answers in a very practical way.
The Other Side of Love is your resource for learning how to handle your anger, know if your anger is definitive or distorted, avoid imploding, recognize and process long-term anger, forgive, deal with anger toward your spouse, teach your children to deal with angry feelings, handle anger with God, handle anger with yourself, and respond to an angry person.
This book can revolutionize your relationships if you practice its ideas for handling life's second greatest force.

Summary: best book on handling anger, bar none
Comment: I've had several clients report significant progress in the processing of their anger after having read this book. It is worth 5 anger management sessions. Chapman does an excellent job of speaking truth to the angry without speaking down to them, and his theological basis for everything he says is right on.

Summary: The best book on anger management I've read
Comment: What a relief to find a book that does not condemn anger or those of us who never learned to handle this emotion postively. This is a life changing, useful book. I have been looking for a biblically based book regarding how to handle anger - this one is exceptional. I've read several secular books that quite frankly did not help.
This book gives biblical illustrations of people who used anger in a constructive way and those in a destructive way that are easy to remember. The author then draws on these examples to discuss (among many things) the positive aspect of anger, that anger usually falls into one of two kinds, simple step-by-step instructions of how to discern which kind of anger you're feeling and then how to deal with either constructively for all parties involved.
It also provides useful tools in how to not only diffuse other people's anger, but how to work toward a positive relationship with that person and increase the likelihood of good outcome when someone mis-manages their anger. I put this into practice and found that it really does work.
Lastly, he clearly talks about forgiveness and what biblically it means to forgive. He does not advocate being a doormat (which some authors I've read seem to insinuate). He does have useful step-by-step instructions for how to release bitterness, anger, and resentment from previous hurts and to move ahead in life.
So glad I found it.

Summary: Amazing Book
Comment: I actually led study on this book in a Sunday School class. It has enhanced my life and my relationships, and I have recommended it to many others, who have also led Bible Study classes with remarkable results. The weekly class I am in (couples, all parents) used this as a launching pad to other books by Gary Chapman. This book addresses a topic we ALL struggle with, no matter who we are. It is good to see some great Christian literature address that anger is something we should learn to live with and express appropriately, not be ashamed of.

Summary: If you or someone you know gets angry...
Comment: I highly recommend this book. When I first picked it up I was really skeptical and was expecting cheesy theories that aren't practical. Instead, this book is incredibly insightful, with down to earth examples that readers can easily relate to. The author is compassionate towards those who have difficulty with anger and does not belittle them like some other authors/counselors do. He provides a framework for understanding and dealing with anger and it's precursors and consequneces. Some of these ideas will be profound and revelatory for people, but this book was worded clearly and quick read.
