Summary: Very Helpful for First Time Parents
Comment: As a first time parent, you spend most of your time worrying about your child. For example, should my newborn's bowel movements look like this etc.? If you didn't have some sort of reference, I could imagine just freaking out all the time. This book really helps address some of those concerns. Both my husband and I have found it very helpful and easy to use. We refer to it all the time. I'm a little confused still as to how some of the information is organized (e.g. multiple pages on breastfeeding but in different parts of the book), but I do like the fact that the sections are by age, i.e. newborn, the first month, the second month etc. I also didn't like "What to Expect When Expecting" but really find this book very helpful. Moreso than another book that I rated highly on this site (which I will now change). I tend to agree with many of the suggestions in the book with regards to breastfeeding and feeding on demand etc, so have no problem with the opinions in the book (which is based on the most up to date research). Anyway, I recommend it as a reference book for all parents.

Summary: Ok, but MUCH better books out there.
Comment: This book is OK. I don't particularly care for how it's organized (by age, not by topic), and found that "BABY 411" is my real go-to book once my baby was born

Summary: I Totally Use It.
Comment: I use this book all the time for questions I have. It calms me down when I'm freaking out about something and about to take my kids to the doctor. It's a must have.

Summary: Different item sold than what was stated
Comment: Seller stated that it was the second edition and sent us the first and older edition and told us in a note that it was the same information as the second edition. If I would have known this I would have not purchased it and would have purchased what I wanted, which was the newest edition, the second edition.

Summary: Ridiculous nursing information
Comment: I was so-so on this book from the beginning. I found my son was always doing things a few months in advance according to it ... so the section on his age was usually useful a few months ago. I tended to read ahead a bit cause of that.. and still it was just so-so. When I got to the section in 11 months that pretty much says your baby should be off the breast and there is no medical benefits to it beyond 12 months. It says that after 12 months human breastmilk is pretty my empty and that at that point they NEED cow milk. That seems weird... cause last I checked I had a human baby and not a baby cow, lol. I'm not saying it's wrong to give cow milk at 12 months instead... but common sense (and science) tells us that human milk is nutritionally better for a human baby than cow milk.. especially for the first 2 years. I was gifted this book and The Baby Book by Dr. Sears... and I agree with the Dr. Sears book pretty much on all the issues. It's much more informative and accurate. I would skip this one and get that! If you are going to parent the way they recommended in 80s then get this book. If you are more progressive and like to make your parenting decisions on the latest scientific research and child development information ... skip it!
