Summary: Not clear that this is condensed
Comment: Like many other reviewers, I was upset to learn that many of the Dr. Seuss board books are condensed, abridged, or even "based on" original paper paged books. This in itself is not a bad thing, a 12 month old only has so much attention span, and a board book can only be so long.

Having not read "Mr. Brown Can Moo..." when I was little, I was unaware that this is not the original version. In fact, I didn't realize many of these books were not original until I bought "There's a Wocket in my Pocket" and didn't recognize it as the book I had when I was little. After doing some research, I learned that these books were abridged (or in some cases, completely changed...see "Go Dog, Go") from their original state, but this is not made clear on the front or back covers of the books. I feel a little deceived. Knowing this, I would have bought only the original versions once my oldest was past the point of destroying books. I only continued to buy the board versions for the durability.

That said, a short, durable book with animal noises is still good for an infant but I would avoid this for a toddler. It's too short and it's missing some of the rhyming and meter evident in the original.

Comment: This is my sons favorite bedtime book. He loves it when I do all the sounds Mr. Brown can do. Then I let him do it and it's fun to watch him play along.

Comment: So I bought this book at the store, and it was the first ever book (and we have read many) that made my 8 month-old giggle. So I purchased it straightaway. And it still makes him grin every time we open it. It is by far his favorite book!

Yes, it is different from the original, but this is a "board-book", and board books are made for the following: chewing, short-attention spans, and more chewing. Get this for your wee one, and then when he gets older, get the original hardback!

Comment: My son quickly memorized all the sounds the animals/objects in this book make. This book involves the child and is very fun every time its read.

Comment: We have lots of books but Baby seem to reach for this book every night for our bedtime storytime. I enjoy reading this one too. Dr. Seuss if very entertaining.
