Summary: Book Review by Ashton G.
Comment: WARNING: BUD NOT BUDDY MAY CONTAIN EXTREME EXCITMENT !!
Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis takes place in the 1930's in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The main character"s name is Bud. Bud is 10 years old. He is a little poor black boy that runs away from his orphanage house to find his father, but finds his grandfather instead. At first his grandfather is a grumpy old crum who doesn"t know how to smile. He doesnt like bud or at least pretends not to. Bud is having a hard time bacause he doesn"t know where his dad is and his mother is dead.
I liked reading this book because I liked reading about poor kids going on adventures and succeeding.
I recommend others to read this book, if they are interested in reading books that start very sad and end with an unexpected happy ending.

Summary: Required reading for the human race
Comment: This first person account is simply written. Yet, there is nothing more that is needed to convey the rich message within Bud, Not Buddy. I read this book to help my ASD son with his school assignment and loved it. I believe that this should be required reading for the human race. The messages of tolerance, kindness, and understanding are universal and would do our world an immense amount of good.
Furthermore, this book is a great way to make an era children cannot possible fathom more real.

Summary: Bud's Journey
Comment: Bud Not Buddy is a hilarious book. The African American, Bud is in an orphanage. He is being sent to a mean foster family with a nasty son with an even nastier attitude. Soon he is put in a shed to sleep in as punishment for hitting their son. When Bud escapes from the foster house he plays a trick on the horrible son.
He soon runs into his orphanage friend Bugs. They are soon on the lamb together. They soon meet this girl that Bud kisses. She informs them that a train is coming this way headed for the West. When they catch up to the train station Bugs gets on first and yells for Bud to throw his suitcase but when he throws the suitcase a flyer that was very important to Bud gets blown out. Bud slows down to get it. Bugs realizes that his friend will never catch up so he throws the suitcase back to Bud.
Later on Bud meets a man named Mr. Lewis. Mr. Lewis takes Bud to Bud's father, Herman E. Calloway. Soon Bud learns that he is not his father but his grandfather. This book is a must for anyone who likes comedy. It is by far the second best African American book I have ever read.
