Summary: look closely! fun hidden sub-stories
Comment: This book is way more fun than the other I Spy books! Look more closely!

I bought this book a couple years ago to use during a tutoring session for a 7yo boy. He enjoyed looking for the hidden pictures, as with the other I Spy books. I use it now with my 2yo twins, although right now they just like looking at the obvious things in the pictures (boats, bikes, trucks).

However, I flipped through this book myself... and then looked AGAIN, and then REALLY LOOKED - and I was delighted not only with the clever main story, but also with all the little sub-stories that can be discovered!

Here are some of the really fun things:

- follow the story of the dice cube that shows up first on p11... you can find out who is dumping the trash that shows up on p27!

- on most pages, the last thing mentioned in the rhyme gives the clue where to go next... so the treasure hunter goes there next, and you see the view on the next page (look for more fun clues yourself!)

- compare the map with the other scenes, especially the scene on the next page... it shows the same town, but with the expected changes from a hundred or so years difference! (for example, no railroad on the map, and an old building is now gone, but you can still see the foundation stones left over)

- the main character (who we never see?) brings things along from page to page, like the lamp... And on page 29, there is no crosspiece on the well to allow anyone to pull up a bucket from it... but then on the next page, there is a crosspiece - so you have to figure out where the main character got it!

These things are too fun to miss! Look closely!

Summary: fun for all ages
Comment: This is a fantastic book. We bought it for our 6 year old, and our whole family has really enjoyed it. It takes you on an adventure coming to a town, finding a treasure map, and eventually finding a hidden treasure. Each page is filled with so many great details to discover. We all would end up gathering around the book and seeing who could be the first to find the items mentioned. Our three year old liked looking at the pictures, our six an eight year olds could fully participate in searching for the items, and my husband and I even found it to be a good challenge and a fun competition. We also thought the book was great for their (and our) imaginations.

Comment: I boought this for one of my granddaughters. She has always enjoyed the
I Spy and Find Waldo books. I am sure that she has enjoyed this too.

Comment: This book is too hard for kids and even adults. Sometimes you think you found the item they are looking for, but it's so far fetched that you don't really know if you found the right object or not. I DO NOT recommend any I SPY books, I'll be sticking with Waldo for my family for now on.

Comment: My son can't put this book down. I have spent hours sitting with him talking about and reading this book from cover to cover. My son started kindergarten this year and this is helping him with his speech and counting because it is fun for him.
