"Outstanding...should be on every home educator's reference bookshelf."—Homeschooling Today
This book will instruct you, step by step, on how to give your child an academically rigorous, comprehensive education from preschool through high school. Two veteran home educators outline the classical pattern of education—the trivium—which organizes learning around the maturing capacity of the child's mind: the elementary school "grammar stage," the middle school "logic stage," and the high school "rhetoric stage." Using the trivium as your model, you'll be able to instruct your child in all levels of reading, writing, history, geography, mathematics, science, foreign languages, rhetoric, logic, art, and music, regardless of your own aptitude in those subjects.
Newly revised and updated, The Well-Trained Mind includes detailed book lists with complete ordering information; up-to-date listings of resources, publications, and Internet links; and useful contacts.

Summary: My favorite homeschool resource, but be cautious about which Kindle edition you get
Comment: As of July 3, the Kindle version was of the second edition, not the third (as advertised), so if you are interested in the third edition, either buy the print version or be sure to get the Kindle preview before you buy to verify that they have corrected the electronic edition as promised.
That said, for over five years Susan Wise Bauer's book has been the first reference I turn to in planning my homeschool year, every year. The curriculum is flexible and easily customized to individual students' levels. I especially enjoy the reading lists, which even at the elementary level are appropriate to a wide range of abilities and interests. I look forward to using this text for many more years.

Summary: Love it!
Comment: This book is great if you are wanting to homeschool your child without using a prepackaged curriculum. The classical method makes so much sense, and I can't wait to implement the ideas in this book.

Summary: Convinced us to homeschool
Comment: Reading this book convinced me that homeschooling isn't the big scary monster that I had envisioned. As a result of reading this book,we have unenrolled our children in school and we are homeschooling them this fall. I like the fact that there are two generations of homeschooling parents contributing their successes and failures to their readers. We are benefitting from all of their hard labors!
This book gives a framework for parents who don't know where to start or who don't think they are capable of providing a quality education for their children at home. The authors point out that they did not do everything in their book but, if you want to "do everything", here's how to do it.
Reading this book has changed our lives for the better and I am so thankful that a friend recommended that I read it. I believe that it will help us to be better parents and teachers to our children and I greatly value the rich resource that this book has been to our family.

Summary: I love this book!
Comment: I got this book based on recommendations of many home school parents that I know. It is wonderful. It has everything you need to plan for teaching K-12. It is a big book and a little overwhelming, but remember you only have to take one year at a time!! The classical approach is a great way to raise smart and productive children. Well worth the money I spent!
