Comment: I am so thankful for this book. I consider myself a "good" parent, but after reading this book, I see so many changes that I am going to make in my parenting style! I am guilty of too much praising with my older son. Because he has behavioral issues, I am constantly looking to praise the good things that he does. Now I realize that it would be more beneficial for both he and his younger brother if I helped them feel pride in themselves and not get there kudos from me. I actually knew that from psych, but I didn't know how to go about it. That's what this book does - it gives really clear, easy to understand examples on what to say. Most of us have good intentions - and this book helps make them a reality. I love the familiar-voice writing style and the "group therapy" feel to it. It makes you feel like you are one of the parents in this book. The stories they share make me feel like they are watching me and my kids! I also liked how it said to allow angry feelings. I didn't grow up like that - and it really opened my eyes. Fabulous book!

Comment: This book is by the same people who wrote How to Talk So Kids Will Listen... It offers practical advice which sounds so reasonable but didn't really help my family when put into use. My girls are almost 9 and 5 1/2. They fight and compete constantly for my attention. I diligently tried the advice in this book but to not avail. Just didn't translate to real life, or maybe its just us!

Comment: This book is capable of imparting a lot of wisdom. It is designed to lead you through a course in which you come to understand what's beneath sibling rivalry and learn techniques and attitudes that can help defuse it or prevent it from starting in the first place. It's solid information clearly presented and well worth reading by any parent who is concerned with the issue. I disagree with the critical reviewer who claimed the info was outdated--I find it very relevant and helpful.
