Summary: Not for children with special needs
Comment: I purchase this item for my daughter that has Autism. I thought it would be good for her because she is a visual learner. It was too many steps for her to handle. The pen is only good for children that have good fine motor skills. She does not have them yet. I would like to say that I will not return it. I will wait to use it again when her fine motor skills gets better. I have purchase alot of leap frog products for her and they usually work great with her level of maturity but this one is a little too advance for her. Leapfrog you should make a list of products that children on Spectrum can benefit from.

Comment: Probably depends on the kid but our daughter got a lot of use from it before she graduated to the computer, gameboy and small portable leapster. Didn't have any problems with it. It can be challenging when they get started but as they master it they're developing useful skills.

Comment: This is a frustrating product. Yes, the graphics are poor, but that would not matter to me if it worked properly. The pen is nearly impossible to control on the pad. The joystick does not obey the direction that it is moved. It is disappointing.

Comment: I have always been happy with Leap Frog products and the name alone would sell me on them. I will be more careful buying stuff now.

This is the worst game I have ever used. My 5 year old daughter can't manipulate the writing screen with the pen. It jumps all over the place and disappears. The graphics are horrible, sound is horrible. It came with a Dora cartridge that has basically different versions of 2 games...no variety and they have a time limit to play and it moves and she can't work the joystick and button at the same time. Since the letters continually move it is just frustrating for her and she can't get past one game whether she knows the answers or not. There is no learning curve at all for a beginning learner. Basically 3 strikes and your out and you have a limited time to get those 3 strikes. It doesn't teach anything.

Taking it back tomorrow.

Summary: Stay away at all costs!
Comment: Bought this for my son for his 4th birthday. I thought it was going to be more like Video games with the controller, but the included Dora game and the extra Nemo game that we bought stunk! They almost exclusively used the drawing pad, which is inaccurate and hard to use. You have to press down hard on the pen to get it to properly register, which made it very hard for my son to use.

The graphics are HORRID. Think NES (or worse). I plugged it up to my 46" HDTV and had to sit on the far end of the room to make out anything on the screen because it's so blocky... Luckily the cables they give you are plenty long! So I tried it on a 27" tube TV in the basement and it still looked like garbage.

I bought it at Toys R Us, and they weren't going to take it back because I had opened it... Luckily I raised enough heck to get them to take it back and was able to exchange it for something else. I guess that will teach me to buy something like that on a whim without looking up a few reviews first!
