The Lesters were hosting another one of their fabulous dinner parties. The invitation list was smaller than usual. The Lesters, and a few of their special family and friends were just about to sit down to enjoy the elaborate dinner Victoria Lester had prepared. The table was breathtaking. As usual Victoria had outdone herself. The diners toasted with a vintage bottle of red wine and sat down to eat. As the food was being passed around the table, Victoria started to choke and cough. Summary: Total blast, here are some tips
Comment: This was a total blast! It was our first one, we will definitely be doing more. Needed one for 8 people with our dinner circle, this one has 8 full characters with roles. Tips on props: we put a body outline in the kitchen with masking tape, and added dried ketchup to look like blood had been vomited out of the mouth. took an empty medine bottle and taped a new label on "sodium cyanide" then sealed in a baggie marked "exhibit A" and left near the body. Also put a wine glass in a sealed baggie for exhibit B. These aren't going to be used to figure out the murder, but are great props to get your guests in the mood. We gave people their profiles early and let them work on their character with accents, words they might use, mannerisms, etc. Important: the script cards for each scene for each character have a defense that you say when someone accuses you, and an accusation (challenge) you can lob out to throw the blame onto someone else. it only says, "say this after Eleanor's challenge", but someone has to lob out an accusation first to get the ball rolling each scene. Instruct your guests to feel free to be the first to throw an accusation, or to throw one out at any time, as it doesn't say in the script who should do so. Also, don't go through the profiles yourself, because one will say who the murderer is on the first page, and you don't want to spoil the fun for yourself.

Summary: Insufficient information for characters, clumsy format
Comment: This was my first murder mystery, but I had far higher expectations than this. The CD consisted of one very useless track (sounds of the party for a few seconds, clicking of heels, champagne opening, pouring, someone choking, and instructions to start. That's it. As for the cards with information, you only get some information on your character per "chapter", but it's difficult to make a convincing defense without knowing everything about your character.
It would make more sense to get a full explanation and bio, THEN instructions on what you must/can reveal per chapter. Also, even after we found out who was the murderer, we all had unanswered questions about the story.
We had fun in spite of the game's format and poorly written characters and plot. I'll try again, but not by this brand.

Comment: It was hard to find so I am glad I found it on Amazon.com! Will be using it in Feb. 2009 but these games are so much fun I am sure we won't be disappointed!

Comment: this was my first murder party and the guest enjoyed it. I invited extra guest just to make the night even more excited. My guest kept talking about it even after 2 months. A must have!

Comment: This was the third murder mystery game me and friends have played. Two by Max Haines. I loved the Max Haines games. They keep you involved in the game and not to much reading to yourself that other game had. With the interaction going on it made it really fun. We had a blast and will be purchasing more Max Haines games.
