Examining a badly decomposed corpse is de rigueur for forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. But puzzling damage on the body of a shooting victim, an Orthodox Jewish man, suggests this is no ordinary Montreal murder. When a stranger slips Tempe a photograph of a skeleton unearthed at an archaeological site, Tempe uncovers chilling ties between the dead man and secrets long buried in the dust of Israel. Traveling there with Detective Andrew Ryan, Tempe plunges into an international mystery as old as Jesus, and centered on the controversial discovery of Christ's tomb. Has a mastermind lured her into an elaborate hoax? If not, Tempe may be on the brink of rewriting two thousand years of history -- if she can survive the foes dead set on burying her.

Comment: This is the first book written by this author that I have read. I am going to buy more because I enjoyed the book. Others have covered the story line of this book much more in depth than I am able to.
I felt the plot was interesting enough and the questions about who did it, when and where and why began almost right from the beginning of the book. The story line moved quickly enough. I enjoyed the characters and want to learn more about them. I look forward to reading other books by this author.
There were a few details about this author's writing style though that some other reviewers have mentioned that I believe are worth noting. This author writes in somewhat short choppy sentences at times. This is particularly true when sharing the thought process of the main character. At times it became confusing and/or monotonous.
And, because of the subject this author has to take some time to explain the past that is the lead into the mystery. She does this by having another character provide background information as the need arises. This sometimes made for some boring/educational parts.
Despite those two points, this is an interesting book.
Enjoy.

Summary: Bad writing!
Comment: What a horrible writer! I got so sick of the one word sentences, and the constant cussing wasn't necessary and didn't add much to the boring characters anyway. I read the whole book, even though I didn't enjoy a single page b/c I wanted to get my money's worth. I would never recommend this book to anyone! What a waste of time and money.

Summary: The only one I pan
Comment: I love Kathy Reichs! She is my second fav author, behind Patricia Cornwell. I read one book and my friend and I rushed out and bought the other 4 we hadn't read. Ever since then, we take turns buying each other the new book for Christmas. However, I had gotten this one 2 years ago. My friend, to whom I always agree on with books, told me I wouldn't like it. So I put it off til this week. I thought, "How bad can it be?". Maybe its just the subject matter didn't interest me. But it seemed like lots of rhetoric about religion and I just got lost. I kept losing interest. I want to be on the edge of my seat....who done it....whats going on with Katie and Ryan????? Wheres Birdie. This was just a miss. All authors have one. Patricia fans remember Isle of the dogs? Well this is Kathy's Isle of the dogs. But I recommend every other book!

Summary: Oops, already read this one
Comment: Unfortunately I had loaned this one out therefore thinking I had not read it. A very good book, but not as fascinating as her others. Nevertheless, worth reading as she is awesome. Love Temperance.
