Summary: First 3 months, great - Longetivity - Nonexistent.
Comment: I purchased this DVD for my 4 yr old daughter for December holidays and it is now June. It was not so much that I needed it to be durable, but kids tend to drop things, and it was pink - cute. So now that we have had it for 6 months, I feel I can ascertain the value of it, or at least, for the particular one we purchased.

The first day, after putting in the first dvd, it dropped on the floor, and it opened up and the DVD flew out. However, I will say that was the only time it happened and I can now assume was maybe we did not put the latch down correctly. And speaking of that, if you have a child who likes to take things apart, this does not have a locking mechanism. And if you do not want your child handling DVDs, keep this in mind of how you will deal with it.

My daughter's young 2 year old cousin also played with it, a week later. He is a child that definitely needs durability, and it stood up to him. One thing I did notice though, if you have a young tot, he/she will be able to push the buttons on the top cover where the screen is - so for a button-happy tot, you will often be going back to un-pause, replay, unstop, etc.

The size of screen is fine. I am sure it there was a purpose to the design of it. My daughter has never complained.

LONGETIVITY
Nonexistent. About 3 months into having the DVD player, using it maybe once a week, and some weeks more and some weeks not, movies would get "stuck." Also, some movies will not play on this. Barbie and The Diamond Castle is one and a few other popular kids movies. I tried 2 DVDs, brand new. It could have been either the 2 DVDs I tried, or my particular model had this aversion to that movie and yours could be fine, but I think it was the DVD player.

Sometimes there would be an "err disk" in the upper left hand corner. Sometimes it would state there is no dvd in there, when in fact there was. I decided to just keep trying with it.

Normally when you go to the store and pick up a DVD, it not working in your dvd player is the farthest from your mind. By the 5th month, this though was foremost and it came to be I would have to get a DVD without my daughter knowing, try it out, cross fingers, sometimes putting in 3 or 4 times to get it to work. Then watch for about 5 mins to make sure the movie actually started before giving it to her. It became too frustrating for her because 98% of the time there would be a problem of some sort.

It is now June, the 6th month, it has ruined 2 DVDs tonight, and will not play. I know this because we watched them on the main DVD this week, and she wanted one of them to watch as a treat tonight. The little CD icon appeared in the upper left, and the CD continuously spun around, but the picture never appeared. I put in a second DVD to try and same thing. Upon opening it up, it felt very hot, and I could feel little pulses of heat emitting out as it continued to spin even after being opened.

Both those DVDs will not play and 2 alternate DVD players spit them out.

This is a GREAT concept. For the first 3 months, it was great - aside from a few Disney movies not working. We took it on road trips. The cord is a little short but it worked. The battery will last for a couple of hours. I loved taking it on road trips - even her teen brother would lean over and watch her movies with her.

As it is, would be fine for $40. That is 5 fast food trips for us. But $189 even if it worked and lasted, still too much! I was lucky and got this on sale for around $90 and free shipping - even with that reduction, not worth it for 6 mos of use.

I have no idea if Fisher Price will fix it or do anything, as I purchased it back in Novemberish for the holidays, but I will update here regardless.

Comment: My daughter received one of these for her 2nd birthday and the DVD player quit working after about 2 weeks. We were able to exchange it for another one, and it only lasted for about 1 week before it stopped working. The problem with both was that it quit reading/recognizing the DVD's and would not load the movies. The product is a great design and concept, but unfortunately it is not a reliable product. Upon contacting Fisher Price they have offered to take the unit back and provide us with a full refund of the retail price. We highly appreciate their customer service, but are disappointed with the product itself.

Comment: Compramos este DVD en Noviembre 19 del 2008 con el bolso y demas accesorios. Mi hija lo cuidaba como si fuera su hija, eso si lo usaba mucho, para estar en casa, ir de paseo, etc. A principio de Mayo no encendió mas, pensabamos que era la batería pero esta se cargó previamente y no hay manera de que encienda. Lo peor del asunto es que no hay servicio tecnico nacional o internacional que respalde un producto Fisher-Price, aún cuando en Venezuela hay una representacion Mattel, no disponen de servicio tecnico para los productos comprados a traves de Internet, ya que las garantías son validas solo en el lugar donde se compre el producto.

if disks are scratched at all they will not play. It is
very sensitive. The dvd player is very easy to open and
does not lock so kids can easily take out the disks.
