Summary: Great idea, poor execution
Comment: For the most part, other reviewers are correct - it is fun and the kids are wowed at first. They all loved it when they first got theirs and enjoyed using it a lot for a while. But eventually the poor design of the door gets really bothersome.

The door hinges on the bottom which at first seems OK. However, when withdrawing money, if there is any significant number of coins in the bank at all, several are bound to get caught in the hinge. Then you are stuck prying them out or the door popping off the hinge entirely. Then you have to lay the thing on its back and drop all the coins back in, re-attach the door, close the door and then stand it back up again. If we had ours mounted to the wall (which is an option) it would be an even worse pain having to constantly take if off the wall.

Of the three we had, the oldest eventually stopped allowing withdrawls and would revert to asking for the PIN when you the withdrawl button. And for the other two, As often as our kids wanted to open theirs and count their money, these just weren't worth keeping. Ours went up for sale on craigslist.

Comment: This is a wonderful toy and my kids - an 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl - absolutely love playing with it! I love the fact that it teaches them about the concept of money in a fun, interactive way. The Deluxe ATM has increased their interest about saving money the more they use it. This is definitely a great purchase!

Summary: Fun, but iffy functioning
Comment: Santa brought this ATM for my 5-year old son this past Christmas. He wanted it very much, and was so excited to receive it. He loves to keep his money there, and to put in his allowance or other earnings. He takes out a small amount whenever we go to a garage sale, etc., and puts back what is left. Its pretty cool, but its hard to work. We lost the card that came with it (on Christmas Day!), so we've been using other cards (almost any firm card the size of a credit card will work). But these other cards don't "stay in" very well - I'm not sure if they original did, as we hardly had a chance to use it -- so you have to hold it in while you do a transaction. Even with someone holding it it for him, the transactions can be flaky -- coins not recognized at all, recognized when partially inserted, or occasionally recognized as the wrong coin. When you put the bills in, you have to type the amount -- that's fine, I'm not expecting bill recognition, I knew that in advance. But the problem is, that you have to either put one bill in at a time and type the value of the bill in EACH TIME, or you can cleverly put in say, 5 one dollar bills and type in $5. It knows to only accept "real dollar" amounts, so to put in $4 in bills, you have to insert the bill, type in $1, insert another bill, type in $1, etc., etc. This is just silly. Bills also get stuck occasionally.

All that said, my son still really likes it. I would probably (??) work better with the original card. My son has just gotten used to the fact that we sometimes have to "correct" the balance (by taking some money out and reinserting it, or by pretending to take money out). I would not recommend this for someone who wants to really keep track of their money and who is not going to be patient about such things. As a "toy" or as a "piggy bank" with quirks, its okay.

Summary: Just okay, but may be best option
Comment: My 6 year old likes this ATM and has fun knowing how much money he has in it. I searched this type of product online and not many of them had good reviews. So maybe this is the best there is for a kids' toy.
Be warned, however, that it doesn't hold a LOT of money (in coins, anyway.) The money is all stored behind that rectangular door at the bottom which is only about half as deep as the machine itself. When you get very many coins in there, the next time you open the door to make a "withdrawal" (you open the door, take some out, then type in the amount of you removed), they all come spilling out before you can shut the door again. It would be great if the money was sorted somehow or dropped into a place that would not fall out.
Also, this machine does not count $2 bills.
It's fun, but not very impressive.

Summary: Nice concept, but doesn't work as described.
Comment: Nice concept. Love the sounds and look BUT it doesn't work as described. Possibly we just received a defective one. Would not keep track of coins inserted, so the count was off.
