Summary: 'Scope Hope
Comment: We bought this for our 8 year old son who had specifically asked for a microscope for his birthday in February. He was thrilled and amazed once we got it opened and working. Without even looking at the directions I was able to set it up and view a slide. However, this is not a toy, and will require adult supervision and instruction until he learns to use it properly for himself. He has expressed a desire to view other items using the microscope and since there a few blank slides and some instructions on how to create your own slides, we look forward to assisting him fulfill this request. Overall, we are impressed with the purchase and are thrilled with our sons' pleasure. Just a reminder: this "tool" needs grown up assistance so that the child will not get frustrated until they learn to use it properly for themselves.

Comment: I bought this microscope for my 7 year old. He LOVES it. It is easy to use, has good optics and appears very durable. My son, his 4 year old sister, and several of their friends spend hours each week finding things to look at with his new favorite toy. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Comment: We got this for our 10 year old son for his birthday. I had read reviews of other microscopes, and chose this one. It was an excellent choice. It comes with blank slides as well as pre-filled slides for instant viewing.
The two light settings are an amazing plus, especially for viewing opaque or thick objects. The light choices also add a new perspective even for transparent items. The focus knobs feel strong and are easy to use, and the 3 lenses are clear as a bell.
It looks "plasticky" in the photo, but it is NOT. It really feels durable, and has that firmer, softer plastic/rubber where needed. It is definitely not a "cheap-feeling" toy. I was very impressed.

Summary: good fun until it breaks
Comment: We bought this for our than 6 year old boy who likes to collect bugs, plants and other specimen and play "scientist" in his "lab". It worked great for that purpose for a few months, about 3 or 4. What is particularly good is the "light from above" feature, which allows to look at specimen that have not been prepared to be thin enough for conventional viewing. Also the magnification levels are just right, making it easy to visually connect for example a just caught fly, the view on it's wing to a zoom on the finer features of the wing.
Unfortunetly the part that transmits the force from little hands on the lens to rotate the lens holder from one magnification to the next is ill designed and broke off after just a few months of usage. Now the "cheap plastic" contstruction that has been mentioned by other reviewers becomes visible, as the part is an irreplacable custom molded plastic part, without which the microscope can not be used any more.
We bought it at 80 $ or so and are very disappointed with this outcome.
