Summary: Great for budding scientists!
Comment: My seven-year-old son's hero is Madame Currie... and after reading about her contributions to science and listening to our explanations about the different elements, he wanted to learn about the periodic table to study elemental properties. My search for a kid-friendly resource led me to this great book. He sleeps with it (he's a bit of a geek), and follows me into the bathroom reading aloud the characteristics of the "element of the day." We especially love the table/chart. Can't go wrong here -- if you are a parent hoping to inspire an appreciation for the complexities of our world, but don't want to inundate your wee folk with big-people-phrases and words, check this book out.

Summary: My son LOVES this book!
Comment: We checked this book out from my seven year old son's school library earlier this month and read it through in just a couple of days. He was thrilled with the descriptions of the elements and how some were radical and others mischievous and like to cause trouble. For days he continually wanted to talk about how the elements did this or that and was describing them back to me. He went on and on about how much he would like the book until I promised him that he would get at least one science book for Christmas. He got this one and another that is more text book styled.
The phrasing of the book is completely geared toward bringing the elements to life. The elements each have a cartoon character type of symbol and a description of its properties. There is also a poster in the back of the book which I will have laminated for him.
Every time I look at this book I wonder why nobody thought to make chemistry exciting when I was in school. If you want to encourage a curious mind to learn more about chemistry and the world around them, this book is a very good place to start. We are also getting the rest of the series.

Summary: FUN & EXCITING WAY TO INTRODUCE SCIENCE
Comment: This book is incredible and written in such a clever way that our son won't put it down. He carries it around the house and everytime he reads about a new element we hear a shout from the other room telling us its' special ability and use.
BONUS: There is a colorful tear-out periodic table poster in the back of this book!

Summary: Wonderful book!!
Comment: I bought this book for my 5-yr.-old son and it was a huge hit. He will look at it for a couple of days and then it's back on the shelf, but it regularly is pulled off again. He loves the little Pokemon-like characters and is getting tonnes of info (as am I) about the elements of the periodic table at the same time. He also makes it a point to tell everyone that there is chromium in our spoons which always catches them off guard :)
